My Goodwill trolling midday Sunday yielded a fun find - this little duck. I really liked the curved way it was supposed to sit, but the eyes were just plain creepy and the base was keeping it from standing. But the broken base issue is what inspired me to create little flip flops for it, and now, she’s headed to the beach!
When I find a new piece, I always put my initials on the bottom first, to see how the wood will burn. This is a hard wood, and I’m having to go slowly and make a few passes to make my embellishments show. I've outlined her swimsuit, and I can be more freeform in the decorations inside. Doing the hard part first means I can get to the fun without worrying about screwing up late in the process.
She’s a great piece to work on this Saturday at SmArt Art, where I’ll be demonstrating my wood burning skills (and trying not to talk with my hands like I usually do). It will be such a good time - come see me!
