I had a bit of time this morning unexpectedly! The boys had gone to bed at their usual time, but I guess our friends' kids run in a different gear than tired old parents. So our early birds were snoozing instead of chirping on the couch and crib.
I forget where I read it, but keeping a "fun chore" list has made my free time much more satisfying. With a list of books to read and crafts to try, or movies you want to watch, or workouts (if you're into that), you avoid the malaise of aimlessly couch-surfing.
So today, put on a podcast and started scribbling on a wooden boot wall plaque I got at Goodwill for three dollars.
Someone had apparently gotten fed-up with it, but sometimes a craft straightens out if you keep working on it - the "More Glitter!" Rule.
I worked my rough design within the four main sections already made. I looked at images online of boot styles as I drew, and although I got this piece second-hand, now I want some cowboy boots. Crafting isn't cheap!
After outlining my design, I finished the interior tangles freehand. Finally, I rubbed the piece with butcher block oil and glued a salvaged pearl jewelry clasp to cover the hole in the toe.
By now, it was time to wake the boys and start the morning sprint! My calm morning, with some easy listening and a little arson, was a nice intro to Thursday.
And last night I made a great recipe that saved us all the time (and some of the money) of going out: crock pot tenderloin BBQ.
